Press Release - March 2007

SUCCESS BREEDS SUCCESS

“Using EducationCity.com, our school’s Maths results have gone from strength to strength”, enthuses Paul Prest, Headteacher. “Two years ago when we had no e-learning resources to speak of, we were achieving significantly below the national average, but building on the 31% increase experienced last year, we’re now looking at a cumulative increase of a staggering 56%.”

This is the story from Shaw Wood Primary School in Armthorpe, Doncaster, which we covered last year, which is remarkably now achieving well over the national average for Key Stage 2 Maths, despite its standing start. 84% of its Year 6 pupils are achieving the benchmark Level 4 in Maths at KS2 and an outstanding 31%, Level 5. Amazing achievements, given just 2 years ago, just 54% were achieving Level 4 and 14%, Level 5.

“We are extremely pleased with the progress the school has made and the timescales that these improvements have been achieved within. We set ourselves an ambitious two-year timeframe for our remedial action because raising standards in Mathematics was such a huge and immediate priority for us, and achieving our target within that timeframe really pays tribute to the EducationCity.com resource, which we use daily in our Maths lessons, and our teachers’ unlimited enthusiasm and dedication.”

Matt Drakard of EducationCity.com commended the school and its teaching staff: “The improved attainment levels attained by Shaw Wood Primary really are incredible and we are very proud to be associated with them. The proof of any pudding is in the eating, and these results really show how EducationCity.com can contribute in the classroom.”
